The Vinyl Institute Awards Westlake Corporation for Safety and Environmental Excellence

 

In 2016, Westlake Corporation's Calvert City, Kentucky and Geismar, Louisiana facilities were recognized in all four award categories (Environmental Excellence, Safety Excellence, Safety Performance and Environmental Honor) as part of The Vinyl Institute’s (VI) annual safety and environmental awards, which recognizes top companies in the vinyl industry for their focus on improving employee safety and protecting the environment at chemical plant sites throughout the U.S. and Canada. Safety and environmental stewardship are core values at Westlake Chemical. Congratulations to all employees at the Calvert City and Geismar facilities for their continuing commitment and dedication to safety.

Calvert City Awards:

 

  • Safety Performance Award in the PVC category for zero recordable incidents.
  • Eight-time consecutive recipient of the Environmental Excellence Award in the ethylene dichloride (EDC) and vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) category for maintaining an outstanding environmental track record of performance.
  • The only facility to receive the Environmental Honor Award in the EDC/VCM category for emissions reduction.
  • Geismar Awards:
  • Six-time consecutive recipient of the Safety Excellence Award in the PVC category for maintaining zero recordable incidents for more than five years in a row.
  • Safety Performance Award in the PVC category for zero recordable incidents.

 

These awards recognized facility performance based upon federal OSHA recordable incidents as well as the EPA's National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants and its Toxic Release Inventory data for air and water.

The VI is a U.S. trade association representing the leading manufacturers of vinyl, VCM, vinyl additives and modifiers.
