Ethylene dichloride (EDC) is used primarily in the production of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM). It is produced by reacting chlorine with ethylene. Westlake uses nearly all of the EDC that we produce in our production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). While its primary use is in the production of PVC, EDC can also be used as a solvent, fumigant, degreaser, or paint remover, and as an intermediate for the production of other organic compounds.
